Ok, all you clever people.
I'd like a different style of blog - one on which I can put more 'permanent' postings, ie pieces that stay on screen and dont scroll with all the postings. I'd also love to be able to put a line drawing on the blog as a background.....
....any suggestions?

I know it may seem a strange answer to your question, but I think punt.nl may have a great deal of what your looking for. Not everything of course, but there is the option of a scrollable or fixed background, you can easily create a menu with links to the logs that aren't meant to get lost in the archive, a what you see is what you get option for the layout etc. (No I'm not a shareholder of punt.nl *winks)
It is in Dutch, but that shouldn't be too big a problem because it's all rather clear (archives=archief, publish=zet online, category=categorie etc) and (in my opinion) a lot easier than blogspot.
You'd need just a little help getting started, but I believe you have a wonderful Dutch connection *smiles
And hey, it'd be a great way of learning Dutch without even realising it.
Anyway, good luck in finding a new and suitable home.

well, this does sound good... I've seen bloggers.nl but that's not it for me... the way I keep some pieces online longer is with using the time thingy weblog has... you can change the dates... and that does work... but it's a lot of work...
